Long before social media feeds were filled with build reveals and modified car content, EMP Performance was already building cars to turn heads.
Back in 2015, the EMP Performance Golf GTI received a major makeover ahead of Modified Nationals, with a completely refreshed look designed to stand out among the crowds of modified cars at the show.
The result was a Golf GTI that combined a seriously polished finish with custom styling, eye-catching wheels and, perhaps most importantly, an exhaust note to match.
A fresh look for 2015
The Golf was given a comprehensive visual refresh, with the polished black paintwork providing the perfect base for the custom EMP Performance livery.
The orange detailing immediately catches the eye, continuing across the bodywork and tying the exterior styling together with the striking orange wheels. It's a combination that gives the car a distinctive identity without losing the aggressive look of the GTI underneath.
The attention to detail is particularly noticeable in the finish of the car. The paintwork was polished to a deep gloss, helping the Golf stand out under the show lights and giving the finished build the sort of presence you'd expect from a dedicated show car.
Custom wheels and styling
The wheels were a major part of the new look.
Finished in the same bold orange as the livery accents, they completely change the character of the Golf and give the car a much more purposeful stance. Combined with the black bodywork and contrasting graphics, the overall effect is unmistakably a modified GTI.
It's a good example of how the right combination of relatively simple visual changes can transform the personality of a car.

And then there's the exhaust...
While the Golf certainly looked the part, the sound was every bit as important.
The video below captures the car after Modified Nationals 2015, giving a closer look at the finished build — but it's the exhaust note that really makes the video worth watching.
As the Golf is revved, the exhaust produces a sharp, aggressive sound accompanied by pops and bangs. Give it a few more revs and there's even a small flame from the exhaust, adding another bit of theatre to an already attention-grabbing car.
For a performance and modification company, it's exactly the sort of detail that matters. A modified car isn't only about how it looks when it's parked up — it's about how it sounds, feels and behaves when you're actually driving it.

A look back at EMP Performance
Projects like the EMP Performance Golf are also a reminder that the business has been involved in the modified car scene for many years.
The 2015 Golf combined styling, wheels, custom graphics and exhaust work to create something that was very much its own car rather than simply a collection of off-the-shelf modifications.
And that's still a big part of what EMP Performance is about today: working with people who are passionate about their cars and helping them create something that suits their taste and how they want their vehicle to look, sound and perform.
